DirektLoadGuard – automatic high-load protection for DirectAdmin servers
A sudden traffic spike, a runaway PHP process or an overloaded website can push a shared hosting server into a state where Apache and PHP stop responding completely. DirektLoadGuard monitors the server load continuously and automatically takes recovery actions before the machine becomes unusable.
Instead of waiting for an administrator to notice the problem, DirektLoadGuard can restart overloaded PHP services, recover Apache and temporarily stop web traffic during extreme load conditions.
What it does
- Monitors the server load automatically

Two levels of protection
High Load Recovery
When the server reaches an abnormal load level, DirektLoadGuard automatically resets active PHP-FPM services and Apache. This can quickly clear blocked PHP workers, runaway processes and temporary resource exhaustion without requiring manual intervention.
Panic Protection
If the server load continues climbing and reaches a critical threshold, DirektLoadGuard switches to emergency mode.
PHP workers are reset and Apache is temporarily stopped, preventing new web requests from adding even more load to the server.
Once the load falls back to a safe level, Apache is automatically started again and normal traffic resumes.
Why this matters
On a hosting server, keeping Apache online at any cost is not always the safest option.
When hundreds of PHP processes, bots or badly behaving websites push the machine into extreme load, continuing to accept new requests can make recovery increasingly difficult.
DirektLoadGuard gives the server time to recover while keeping essential services and the operating system responsive.
Configurable protection
The protection thresholds can be calibrated for the resources and workload of each server.
For example:
- normal operation — monitoring only
- high load — restart PHP and web services
- critical load — activate panic protection
- recovery threshold — automatically restore web traffic
This allows DirektLoadGuard to be adapted to both smaller hosting servers and larger multi-core systems.
